Attorney General Issues Ge Food Labeling Questionnaire

Attorney General William Sorrell issued a GE Food Labeling Questionnaire today in his first official solicitation of public input on the rules that will implement Act 120—the law requiring the labeling of foods produced with genetic engineering. All interested persons, including food processors, grocers and other retailers, distributors, the agricultural community, and consumers, are encouraged to take the questionnaire, which is available here (at, and to forward it to others who may desire to provide input. The questionnaire will be open until June 30, 2014.

Act 120 gives the Attorney General the authority to promulgate rules to facilitate the labeling of GE foods. While the Attorney General will solicit official comments on a proposed draft rule later this year, individuals are welcome to provide initial input by taking the GE Food Labeling Questionnaire, and/or contacting the Attorney General via email at People interested in keeping up to date on the development of the rules can also sign up for periodic email updates by going to the Office’s website,, clicking on the GE Food Labeling Rule link, and following the directions there.
