Attorney General Launches Multi-Language Outreach To Inform Vermonters Of Consumer Assistance Program

“Vermont’s population continues to diversify and includes many Vermonters whose primary language is not English,” said Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell. “We want all Vermonters to be aware of their consumer rights and the assistance our office provides to help solve consumer complaints.”

The new outreach campaign provides information in Spanish, French, Vietnamese, and Bosnian, as well as English. Consumers speaking other languages can access consumer information and file complaints in their language by using the translation icon on the Vermont Consumer Assistance Program (CAP) website at In 2009, CAP processed over 6,500 consumer complaints and achieved $425,000.00 in resolutions for Vermont consumers.

Funding for the multi-language outreach was provided by a grant awarded to the Consumer Assistance Program from the Sears Consumer Education Fund. Students and faculty of the Department of Community Development and Applied Economics at the University of Vermont developed the graphic design and layout.
