Attorney General William H. Sorrell Announces Community Meeting on Human Trafficking

CONTACT: Amy S. FitzGerald, Assistant Attorney General, (802) 828-5520

September 24, 2010

On September 28, from 9:00 until 12:00, the Attorney General’s Office will host a community meeting on the issue of Human Trafficking in Vermont. Human trafficking consists of labor trafficking and sex trafficking that involves force, fraud or coercion or where the victim is under 18 years of age.

Last spring the legislature passed S.272 creating a Task Force, chaired by the Attorney General, to study human trafficking in Vermont. The Task Force is preparing a report for the legislature regarding ways to raise public awareness about human trafficking, how Vermont communities can identify, report and prevent acts of human trafficking, the availability of victim services for those being trafficked and recommended changes to Vermont law.

The Task Force is collecting data and invites you to attend this community meeting and provide input on this very important issue. The community meeting will be held on September 28, from 9:00 until 12:00 at the Attorney General’s Office, 109 State Street, (Third Floor), Montpelier, Vermont.
