Barre Man Charged With Simple Assault On A Central Vermont Medical Center Nurse

Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that Damian Barnett, age 33, of Barre, Vermont, has been charged with one misdemeanor count of simple assault on a health care worker. The charge carries a possible prison term of up to two years and a possible fine of up to $1,000.

According to documents filed with the court, Mr. Barnett was receiving treatment at Central Vermont Medical Center on March 8, 2014 when he launched himself toward his treating nurse, striking her in the pelvis with the top of his head, pushing her back and shoulder into the wall behind her.

Mr. Barnett was arrested by the Barre Police Department. At his arraignment today in Washington Superior Court he entered a plea of not guilty and was released on conditions of release.
