December 18, 2012

Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that Glenn M. Canaday, of Burlington, Vermont, was sentenced in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Chittenden Unit, after pleading guilty to three misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography.

The charges resulted from a shared investigation between the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, South Burlington Police Department, and Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The affidavit filed with the court alleges that Mr. Canaday obtained child pornography over the internet using peer-to-peer file sharing programs.

The Court sentenced Mr. Canaday to one to six years in jail, all suspended, and placed him on probation for six years. While on probation, Mr. Canaday will be subject to standard conditions and special conditions. These special conditions restrict his contact with children, require him to register as a sex offender, and require him to successfully complete sex offender treatment.
