The Vermont Attorney General’s Office announced today that Mark Beezup, 53, of Derby, Vermont, has been arraigned in Vermont Superior Court in Orleans County on the charges of sexual assault on a minor, and lewd and lascivious conduct with a child. The charges arise from an investigation conducted by the Chittenden Unit for Special Investigations and the Vermont Attorney General’s Office. According to papers filed with the Court, Beezup committed the offenses in August 2009, and January 2011. At that time, Mr. Beezup was employed as a Vermont state trooper; he resigned from his position in March of this year.

Beezup entered a not guilty plea and was released on conditions. If convicted, Mr. Beezup could face a maximum sentence of up to life imprisonment.
