Press ReleasesGas Station Leak Results in $35,000 FineCONTACT: Cindy Maguire, Assistant Attorney General, (802) 828-5514 August 15, 2007 - The Attorney General’s Office and the Agency of Natural Resources announced that Wesco, Inc., and Odessa Corporation, Vermont corporations with principal offices in South Burlington, pled no contest on August 15, 2007 in Chittenden District Court to charges of Release of Hazardous Materials. According to court documents, the release occurred in August of 1998 when gasoline leaked from an underground storage tank system at the Exxon station on East Allen Street in Winooski. As part of a plea agreement, Wesco Inc., the owner of the tank system, and Odessa Corporation, the operator of the tank system, each pled no contest to one misdemeanor charge. The two corporations will pay a fine of $35,000. The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Department of Environmental Conservation of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, and the Attorney General's Office. |
