Press ReleasesHinesburg Man Sentenced for Possession of Child PornographyCONTACT: Evan Meenan, Assistant Attorney General, (802) 828-5512 August 13, 2012 Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that on August 9, 2012, Robert Gingras was sentenced in Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, Chittenden Unit, after pleading guilty to four misdemeanor counts of possession of child pornography. The charges resulted from a shared investigation between the Vermont Attorney General’s Office, the South Burlington Police Department, the Hinesburg Police Department, the Vermont State Police, and Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (ICAC). The affidavit filed with the court alleges that Mr. Gingras obtained child pornography over the internet using Peer-to-Peer file sharing programs. The Court sentenced Mr. Gingras to three to eight years in jail, all suspended, and placed him on probation for eight years. While on probation, Mr. Gingras will be subject to standard conditions and special conditions. These special conditions restrict his contact with children, require him to register as a sex offender, and require him to successfully complete sex offender treatment. |
