January 24, 2014

Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that on January 23, 2014, Mark Zielinski, of Middletown Springs, Vermont, was charged with five felony counts of Promoting Child Pornography.

The charges stem from a shared investigation between the Attorney General’s Office, Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, and the Vermont State Police. Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force consists of law enforcement agencies from across the state and investigates the sexual exploitation of children over the internet.

According to documents filed with the court, Mr. Zielinski obtained and distributed child pornography over the internet using peer-to-peer file sharing programs. Computers connect to peer-to-peer networks via publicly available software that permits them to trade pictures and movies, including those containing child pornography, with other computers all around the world.

Mr. Zielinski pleaded not guilty at this arraignment in Rutland Superior Court. The court set bail at $50,000 cash and imposed conditions of release that limit his access to children.
