Vermont Attorney General to Host Public Forum on Vermont Law Enforcement’s Use of Tasers

Vermont Attorney General Bill Sorrell announced today that his office will host a public forum to evaluate Vermont law enforcement’s use of Tasers. The public forum will convene on March 11, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. in the auditorium of the Pavilion Building located at 109 State Street in Montpelier.

The forum will include a panel consisting of State Senator Alice Nitka, State Representative Bill Lippert, Vermont ACLU Executive Director Allen Gilbert, Ed Paquin from Disability Rights Vermont, and Attorney General Bill Sorrell. The forum will also include several presentations regarding the current training of law enforcement, current policies on the use of Tasers, and the risk and benefits of using them. The panel will also invite members of the public to provide their comments on these issues. Following the public forum, the panel will make recommendations to the Attorney General concerning the use of Tasers by Vermont law enforcement. The panel encourages all interested person to attend and participate in the public forum.
