August 23

Vermont Attorney General William H. Sorrell announced today that Donald Wimble, of Waitsfield, Vermont, was arraigned today, at the Vermont Superior Court, Criminal Division, in Barre, Vermont, on 1 count of Neglect of a Vulnerable Adult, 8 counts of Financial Exploitation of a Vulnerable Adult, and 1 count of Grand Larceny.

According to documents filed with the court, an investigation conducted by the Vermont Secretary of State’s Office revealed that Mr. Wimble failed to provide his mother, a vulnerable adult, with adequate living conditions and medical care after assuming the responsibility to do so. He also transferred over $345,000.00 from her bank accounts and withdrew over $19,000.00 from her retirement account without legal authority to do so and for his personal financial gain. Finally, he stole $85,000.00 to purchase a 2008 Corvette. Combined all 10 charges carry a maximum potential penalty of not more than 90 years and 18 months imprisonment, a fine of not more than $95,000.00, or both.

At arraignment, Mr. Wimble pled not guilty to all counts and was released on conditions, including conditions that restrict his access to his mother absent the permission and presence of her legal guardian.
